Mavin Gaye.

The early 1960’s saw Marvin kick start his musical journey as a vocalist and drummer for the renowned Motown Records. In 1971, he released the album ‘What’s Going On’, giving him a breakthrough like never before.

The songs in the album were different in sound and vibe from the usual Motown Records sound.

Here, Marvin really outdid himself, blending in jazz, RnB, and soul elements seamlessly. What followed was a journey that entailed creativity to come up with a masterpiece that was relevant to the society of his day and age.

His style of music was different from
the usual norms in conventional music, creating an era of bold and confident musical
expression. Marvin Gaye’s versatility as an artist is apparent in how he explored an array of genres.

Initially, an RnB and Soul icon, Marvin could easily transition into other genres such as pop and funk.

Great example of this is his later album (1973) “Let’s Get it On”. The title track to this album
became a love anthem through which Marvin was able to show his sensual side. His captivating lyrics, coupled with his prowess as an artist, positioned him as a sex symbol with the ability to capture an audience like none other.

Marvin’s success got to new heights in the 1980’s when he released yet another album,
“Midnight Love”. The standout track here, ‘Sexual Healing’ did so well, propelling him to even higher scales commercially. Things did not end here, as this track even won him two Grammies.

Through this achievement, Marvin was able to highlight his adaptability to changing times, not to mention enduring relevance to the industry. Gaye’s talent could be felt way beyond his career as a solo artist.

His collaborations, too, were
noteworthy. His duets with Tammi Terrell, including tracks such as “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” showcased the kind of chemistry he had with other artists.

These collaborations, in addition to topping the charts, also became timeless
classics that are celebrated even today.

Sadly, Marvin Gaye’s life was curtailed in April 1984 when his father shot him to death. While his ending was highly untimely, Marvin’s legacy lives on.

As a matter of fact, he was added to the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, something that solidified his legit place among the pantheon of artistic (music) greatest. If we are to sum up Gaye’s achievements, we’d have to go over and beyond his musical
prowess.
